The Lady Scots Cross Country Team competed at the Region II-5A Championships on Monday, October 20th at the Harold Patterson Sports Complex in Arlington. This was the first time the Regional Meet has been held at this venue.
The team did a super job by placing 2nd with 78 points. They raced with a lot of confidence and determination which was so much fun to watch! They have continued the State Tradition as the team will be competing at the UIL Class 5A State Championships on Friday, October 31st at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The race begins at 9:30 a.m.
There were 23 teams competing at the Region II-5A Championships and 172 runners. The team was led by junior Ryan Sontag who medaled and placed 9th with a time of 18:54.69. Close behind was sophomore Finley Heckler who also medaled by placing 10th with a time of 19:07.75. Sophomore Paisley Bassett placed 17th with a time of 19:28.31. Senior Presley Pate placed 22nd with a time of 19:42.03, and junior Annie Cooper placed 25th with a time of 19:46.49. Senior captain Maddie Heckler placed 34th with a time of 20:13.49, and junior Claire Deeken placed 38th with a time of 20:20.92. The alternates were senior captain Julia Berlin, sophomore Irene Cooper, senior Campbell Dean, senior Addie Perritt, freshman Stella Pruett, junior Campbell Ragan, and senior Ava Thropp.
The top four teams and top 10 individuals not on one of these teams qualified for the UIL Class 5A State Championships. The coaches are so proud of the team and excited to be competing next Friday. The five senior captains have done a super job all season of leading the team - Julia Berlin, Gracie Golden, Maddie Heckler, Kate Lipscomb, and Bess Prather.
