The Lady Scots Cross Country Team had a great race day at the Byron Nelson Invitational on Saturday, September 26th at Gene Pike Middle School in Justin. The team competed in three divisions.

The Elite Varsity Team placed 1st out of 15 teams with 38 points. There were four Lady Scots in the top seven. Sophomore Adelaide Wortman led the team by placing 1st out of 126 runners with a time of 18:05.7, and senior captain Ryan Sontag was right behind her as she placed 2nd with a time of 18:06.8. Juniors Finley Heckler and Paisley Bassett were close behind. They placed 5th (18:35.7) and 7th (18:53.9), respectively. Freshman Ella Marie Hooks rounded out the top five for the Lady Scots with a time of 19:45.2. The other team members also had great races - freshman Hadleigh Raynor (20:16.5), sophomore Stella Pruett (20:49.1), and senior Claire Deeken (20:49.2).

In the Open Varsity Division, the team placed 5th out of 13 teams with 111 points. There were 107 runners in this division. Freshman Jing Wang led the team with a time of 21:22.9 and placed 13th. Freshman Perry Doffermyre was right behind Wang and placed 14th with a time of 21:26.0. The other runners were freshmen Sloane Odom and Madison Baskin, seniors Jenna McCombs and Campbell Ragan, and junior Irene Cooper.

In the JV Division, the team placed 5th out of 14 teams with 106 points. There were 168 runners in this division. Junior Charlotte Hodges was the top runner for the Lady Scots as she placed 15th with a time of 22:55.6. The other top six runners were freshmen Catherine Lien and Faith Carlson, junior Kate Furgeson, sophomore Natalia Garcia Villalon, and senior captains Ellie Chong and Emery Paulsen.

Congratulations to the following athletes as they set new personal records: freshman Perry Doffermyre, Kate Deeken, Brinnley Perritt, and Gwennan Jones, junior Olivia Wade, and sophomore Maren Colangelo.

Also, congratulations to the following athletes as they had season bests: sophomores Stella Pruett, Natalia Garcia Villalon, and Audrey Frotten, senior Claire Deeken, senior captains Ellie Chong and Caroline Diehl, and juniors Kate Furgeson and Anna Odom.

The following athletes medaled due to placing in the top 20 in their division: sophomore Adelaide Wortman, senior captain Ryan Sontag, juniors Finley Heckler and Paisley Bassett, freshmen Jing Wang and Perry Doffermyre, and junior Charlotte Hodges. Congratulations!

The next meet for the Lady Scots will be the Jesuit XC Classic on Saturday, October 3rd at Myers Park in McKinney. The first race begins at 7:55 a.m.
