The Lady Scots Cross Country Team competed in the District 12-5A Championships on Thursday, October 10th at Myers Park in McKinney. In the Varsity Division, the team won the District Championship for the 46th time out of 50 years. The team scored 26 points. There were seven teams and 45 runners in the Varsity Division.
Sophomore Ryan Sontag led the team by winning the silver medal with a time of 18:43.6. Close behind Sontag was freshman Paisley Bassett who won the bronze medal and set a new personal record with a time of 18:57.5. Freshman Finley Heckler placed 4th with a time of 19:02.1, and junior Maddie Heckler placed 6th with a time of 19:11.7. The other team members were senior Ellie Preston – 11th place, senior captain Samantha Meck – 18th place, and junior Presley Pate – 23rd place.
In the JV Division, the team also won the District Championship with 16 points. The JV has never been beaten when they have had a team competing in the District Meet. There were eight teams and 125 runners in the JV Division.
Senior Varsha Ravi won the gold medal with a time of 20:55.6, junior Hayden Gray won the silver medal with a time of 21:17.4, and sophomore Annie Cooper won the bronze medal with a time of 21:32.1. Rounding out the top seven were junior Julia Berlin – 4th place, freshman Lily Johnson – 6th place, senior Tessa Nurre – 9th place, and junior Campbell Dean – 11th place.

The next meet for the Lady Scots will be the Region II-5A Championships at Lynn Creek in Grand Prairie on Tuesday, October 22nd. The race begins at 9:00 a.m.
