On Saturday, September 7th, the Lady Scots Cross Country Team competed very well at the McKinney Boyd Bronco Stampede. The meet was held at Myers Park in McKinney where the District 12-5A Championships will be held on October 10th. The course was very challenging due to the athletes climbing over 1000 meters in hills.
In the Elite Varsity Division, the team placed 2nd with 47 points. There were 10 teams and 89 runners in this division. Freshman Finley Heckler led the team with a 2nd place finish with a time of 18:41 (a new personal record), sophomore Ryan Sontag placed 3rd with a time of 18:46, and freshman Paisley Bassett placed 7th with a time of 19:13. The other team members were junior Maddie Heckler, senior Ellie Preston, freshman Lily Johnson, senior captain Samantha Meck, and junior Presley Pate.
In the Open Varsity Division, the team placed 3rd with 109 points. There were 12 teams and 122 runners in this division. Senior Tessa Nurre was the lead runner for the Lady Scots. She placed 11th with a time of 21:20, junior Julia Berlin placed 15th with a time of 21:34, and junior Hayden Gray placed 19th with a time of 21:55. The other team members were freshman Charlotte Hodges, sophomore Avi Levy, junior Ava Thropp, and senior MK Diehl.
In the JV Division, the Lady Scots placed 2nd with 67 points. There were 19 teams and 231 runners. The top runner for the JV was junior Gracie Golden. She placed 9th with a time of 22:57. Sophomore Jenna McCombs placed 11th with a time of 23:16, sophomore Campbell Ragan placed 13th with a time of 23:17, and freshman Anna Odom placed 14th with a time of 23:17. The other top three team members were junior Annika Johnson, sophomore Ellie Chong, and sophomore Emery Paulsen.
The following athletes set new Personal Records: Finley Heckler, Reed Golden, AK Goldman, Anna Heinrich, and Haven Hyatt. The following athletes set new McKinney Boyd Bronco Stampede Personal Records: Presley Pate, Julia Berlin, Avi Levy, Ava Thropp, Gracie Golden, Emery Paulsen, Surya Assar, AK Goldman, Mary Grace Mousa, Eva Boutros, and Alejandra Villasana. The following athletes set new Season Bests: Tessa Nurre, Surya Assar, Mary Grace Mousa, Mary Lawrence Cordon, and Alejandra Villasana.
The next meet for the Lady Scots will be the McNeil Invitational in Round Rock on Saturday, September 21st. This is the location of the UIL State Championships on November 2nd.
