The Lady Scots Cross Country Team had a great race day at the Marcus Coach T Invitational on Saturday, August 31st at North Lakes Park in Denton. Each year this is one of the largest meets in Texas on this weekend, and it is always very competitive which makes it a lot of fun!
The Elite Varsity Team placed 4th out of 25 teams with 164 points. Junior Maddie Heckler led the team by placing 20th out of 164 runners with a time of 18:39 (a season best). Sophomore Ryan Sontag was right on Maddie’s heels as she placed 21st with a time of 18:41. Freshmen Finley Heckler and Paisley Bassett were close behind as both ran 18:59. The other team members were senior Ellie Preston, senior captain Samantha Meck, and junior Campbell Dean.
In the Open Varsity Division, the team placed 10th out of 25 teams with 295 points. There were 210 runners in this division. Junior Presley Pate led the team with a time of 20:45, and freshman Lily Johnson was close behind with a time of 20:51. The other runners were juniors Julia Berlin and Hayden Gray, seniors Tessa Nurre and MK Diehl, and sophomore Jenna McCombs.
In the Elite JV Division, the team placed 5th out of 25 teams with 140 points. There were 285 runners in this division. Freshman Charlotte Hodges was the top runner for the Lady Scots as she placed 23rd with a time of 22:17. The other top six runners were sophomore Avi Levy, juniors Ava Thropp and Annika Johnson, senior captain Price Rhodes, freshman Anna Odom, and sophomore Lucy Burns.
In the Open JV Division, the team placed 7th out of 14 teams. There were 147 runners in this division. This division ran a two mile course rather than a 5K. Freshman Hattie Rhodes was the lead runner for the team with a time of 15:39. The other top six runners for the Lady Scots were sophomore Caroline Diehl, senior AK Goldman, freshman Haven Hyatt, sophomore Alejandra Villasana, and juniors Mary Grace Mousa and Sasha Jordanoff.
Congratulations to the following Lady Scots as they set new 5K personal records: Finley Heckler, Paisley Bassett, Charlotte Hodges, Ava Thropp, and Anna Odom.
The team is competing well and the coaches are so proud of everyone! They are working hard every day, and it is paying off on race day! :)
The next meet for the Lady Scots will be the Lovejoy XC Fall Festival on Saturday, September 14th at Myers Park in McKinney. The first race begins at 7:15 a.m.
