On Saturday, August 10th, the Lady Scots Cross Country Team started their pre-season with the Plano ISD Invitational held at Hoblitzelle Park/Hendrick Middle School in Plano. It was a 2-mile course. Both the Varsity and JV placed 1st with 55 points and 47 points, respectively.

In the Varsity Division, there were 11 teams and 104 runners. The team was led by sophomore Ryan Sontag who placed 5th with a time of 12:12. Freshman Finley Heckler placed 6th with a time of 12:16. Junior Maddie Heckler and freshman Paisley Bassett also had great races. They placed 10th and 12th, respectively. The other team members were senior captain Samantha Meck, junior Presley Pate, sophomores Annie Cooper and Campbell Dean, and freshman Lily Johnson.

In the JV Division, there were 18 teams and 253 runners. Junior Julia Berlin led the Lady Scots by placing 3rd with a time of 13:42. Rounding out the top ten finishers were junior Hayden Gray who placed 9th with a time of 14:11 and senior MK Diehl who placed 10th with a time of 14:11. The other top four runners were sophomore Campbell Ragan, freshman Charlotte Hodges, junior Gracie Golden, and sophomore Jenna McCombs.

The following athletes set a new 2 mile PR: Ryan Sontag, Presley Pate, Annie Cooper, Campbell Dean, Julia Berlin, MK Diehl, Gracie Golden, Jenna McCombs, Ava Thropp, Leia Mufraggi, Emery Paulsen, Brooke DeVault, Surya Assar, and Caroline Diehl.

It was a great way to start the 2024 season, and the coaches are so proud of everyone!

The next meet for the Lady Scots will be the Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational on Saturday, August 17th at Lakeview Camp in Waxahachie. The first race begins at 7:00 a.m.
