The Varsity and Middle School Girls Gymnastics Team held the 2023 HP United Meet at the Hegi Family Gymnastics Training Center on Thursday. During the meet, the gymnasts are divided into teams to compete in a friendly intra-squad meet encouraging the development of a stronger HP Gymnastics program.
Along with the team members, the Lady Scots welcomed 4 young ladies as “Scot Gymnast for a Day.” Ellie, Katy, Charlotte, and Harper were auction winners at their elementary schools and had an exciting time meeting the varsity and middle school gymnasts, getting an HP Gymnastics t-shirt, a signed Varsity Gymnastics poster, and an honorary spot on the team for the evening.
The Blue Team won the meet lead by Junior Captain Lily Ford. Lily won 3 events and the all-around at the meet. She placed 1st on Vault, 2nd on Bars, 1st on Beam, 1st on Floor, and 1st All-Around. Lily scored a season high on Bars, and her highest score of the meet was 9.65 on Beam.
8th grader Lauren Sweary competed on the Blue team scoring 9.0 or higher on all events. Lauren placed 5th on Vault, 4th on Bars, 4th on Beam, 5th on Floor, and 4th All-Around. She scored her highest score of the meet (9.15) on Vault.
Sophomore Caroline Fullwood was the third member of the winning Blue team. She placed 2nd on Vault, 5th on Bars, 5th on Beam, 3rd on Floor, and 5th All-Around. Caroline scored season highs on Vault, Bars, Floor, and All-Around, with her highest score being 9.35 on Vault and Floor.
The Red team was led by Junior Erin Bollinger. Erin was 2nd on Vault, 1st on Bars, 2nd on Beam, 2nd on Floor, and 2nd All-Around. She scored season highs on Bars, Beam, Floor, and All-Around. Her highest score of the meet was 9.55 which she scored on Bars and Floor.
Junior Red team member, Margaret Maambo, placed 4th on Vault, 3rd on Bars, 3rd on Beam, 3rd on Floor, and 3rd All-Around. She scored season highs on Vault, Bars, and All-Around. Her highest score of the meet was 9.4 on Beam.
Freshman Harper O’Neal was the third member of the Red team. Harper placed 6th on Vault, Bars, Beam, Floor, and All-Around. She scored season highs on Vault, Bars, Beam, and All-Around, and her highest score of the meet was 9.1 on Vault.
