For the 9th year in a row, the Lady Scots are DISTRICT CHAMPIONS! Not only did the team win the team competition, but the girls swept every event title and the all-around title.
Sophomore Lily Ford was crowned the District Beam Champion, District Floor Champion, and District All-Around Champion. Lily tied for 3rd on Vault and placed 4th on Bars. Her highest score of the meet was 9.85 on Compulsory Vault.
Senior Captain Kennedy Downing was crowned District Vault Champion scoring a nearly perfect 9.95 on Day 2 of competition. Kennedy placed 2nd All-Around, just 0.1 behind her teammate Lily. She placed 2nd on Floor, 3rd on Bars, and 3rd on Beam. Kennedy was honored at Senior Night on Day 1 of District Championships. She has been a part of the Highland Park Gymnastics program for 6 years, and served as Captain for 3 of those years.
Senior Captain Linda Tran was crowned District Bars Champion. Linda tied for 3rd on Vault, tied for 3rd on Floor, was 4th on Beam, and placed 3rd All-Around. Her highest score of the meet was 9.85 on Vault. Linda scored season high scores on every event during District Championships. Linda was also honored at Senior Night on Day 1 of Districts. She has been a part of the Highland Park Gymnastics program for 4 years and served as Captain for 2 years.
Sophomore Ana Simpson placed 2nd on Vault, 2nd on Bars, 2nd on Beam, 3rd on Floor, and 4th All-Around. Her highest score of the meet was 9.8 on Compulsory Vault.
Junior Olivia Adams placed 6th on Vault, 5th on Bars, 6th on Beam, 9th on Floor, and 6th All-Around. Olivia scored season highs on Vault and Floor during Districts. Her highest score of the meet was 9.8 on Compulsory Vault.
Freshman Caroline Fullwood competed on Vault and Bars on both days of District. She also competed Compulsory Beam. Caroline placed 7th on Bars, and 10th on Vault. Her highest score of the meet was 9.2 on Compulsory Vault.
Sophomore Riley Neumann competed on Compulsory Bars scoring 8.0.
The Lady Scots qualified to the Regional Championships in 2nd place behind Rockwall High School. Regionals will be hosted by Heath High School on April 11 – 12, 2022.
