Running Scots win District 13-5A Championship

The Running Scots completed an outstanding day at Myers Park in McKinney by winning both Varsity and Junior Varsity Men’s Cross Country Championships on Thursday. This was the fourth consecutive district title for the Running Scots, and 9th in the last 12 years. The Varsity team of Sam Brady, Luke Finch, Drew Gregory, Hunter Hegi, William Jaudes, Mark Philbin, and Jeffrey Tubbs-Jimenez finished with 35 points to take first place in the meet. Four runners finished in the top 10 earning 1st team All-District honors. William Jaudes led the team earning a silver medal with a time of 17:03.8, and is this week’s Golden Spike Runner of the Week. Hunter Hegi, Jeffrey Tubbs-Jimenez, and Luke Finch also finished in the top 10 earning 1st Team All-District honors. Mark Philbin, Sam Brady, and Drew Gregory all finished in the top 18 and earned 2nd Team All-District honors. This is the 24th consecutive season the Running Scots have qualified for the Regional Championship meet. The Junior Varsity also finished with a District championship with a perfect score of 15. The team was led by Tommy Kerr who finished first overall with a time of 18:27.4. The top ten finishers were Running Scots, and the team had 12 runners earn medals by finishing in the top 15. Eight runners finished with personal best times. The Running Scots compete in the Region II Championship meet on Tuesday, October 26th at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie. The team will be seeking to advance to what would be the program’s 25th appearance at the State meet in Round Rock. Race time is 12:30. Go Scots!!!
