On Saturday, September 19th, the Lady Scots Cross Country Team competed at two different meets - Lovejoy Fall Festival and McNeil Invitational. Fourteen of the Lady Scots travelled to Round Rock and competed at the McNeil Invitational at Old Settlers Park. This is the venue for the UIL State Championships on November 7th. The rest of the team competed at the Lovejoy Fall Festival at Myers Park in McKinney which is the venue for the District 12-5A Championships on October 15th. It was a great race day for the Lady Scots!

At the McNeil Invitational, the team competed in two divisions. In the Gold Elite Varsity Division, the team placed 1st out of 32 teams with 91 points. There were 245 runners in this race. The team had to qualify to race in this division. Sophomore Adelaide Wortman led the team by placing 4th with a time of 18:03.9, and senior captain Ryan Sontag placed 7th with a time of 18:07.3 - a new course personal record. Both of these kiddos medaled as they placed in the top 15. Junior Finley Heckler placed 28th with a time of 18:48.0 – a new course personal record, and junior Paisley Basssett placed 36th with a time of 18:55.6. The other three Lady Scots also raced well as senior Annie Cooper set a new course personal record of 19:33.3, freshman Ella Marie Hooks finished the race in 20:17.6, and freshman Hadleigh Raynor raced the course in 21:06.2.

In the 5A Varsity Division, the team placed 4th out of 20 teams. There were 156 runners in this race. Sophomore Stella Pruett Addie was the top runner for the team as she placed 19th with a time of 21:57.5. Senior Claire Deeken was right on Pruett’s heels as she placed 20th with a time of 21:58.1. The other team members were freshmen Madison Baskin, Perry Doffermyre and Madeline Lewis, junior Irene Cooper, and freshman Faith Carlson.

The coaches are so proud of the team! Everyone is working together as a team, and it is so much fun to watch!

The next race for the team will be at the Byron Nelson Invitational on Saturday, September 26th at Gene Pike Middle School in Northlake. The first race begins at 7:00 a.m.
