Lady Scots Cross Country Team Races Well at the Coach T-Marcus Invitational

The Lady Scots Cross Country Team had a great race day at the Coach T-Marcus Invitational on Saturday, September 5th at North Lakes Park in Denton. Each year this is the largest meet in Texas on this weekend, and it is always very competitive which makes it a lot of fun!

The team competed in four divisions. The Elite Varsity Team placed 1st out of 38 teams with 106 points. Sophomore Adelaide Wortman led the team by placing 6th out of 298 runners with a time of 17:57, and senior captain Ryan Sontag was right on her heels and placed 7th with a time of 17:58. Both Wortman and Sontag medaled since they finished in the top 20. Juniors Finley Heckler and Paisley Bassett were close behind. They placed 21st (18:32) and 25th (18:35), respectively. Senior Annie Cooper rounded out the top five for the Lady Scots with a time of 19:44. Freshmen Ella Marie Hooks (19:48) and Hadleigh Raynor (20:30) also had a great race and were the team’s sixth and seventh runners.

In the Open Varsity Division, the team placed 10th out of 27 teams with 287 points. There were 217 runners in this division. Sophomore Stella Pruett led the team with a time of 20:58 – a season best. The other runners were freshmen Sloane Odom and Perry Doffermyre, senior Jenna McCombs, freshman Madison Baskin, junior Irene Cooper, and freshman Madeline Lewis.

In the Elite JV Division, the team placed 8th out of 19 teams with 193 points. There were 207 runners in this division. Freshman Jing Wang was the top runner for the Lady Scots as she placed 16th with a time of 22:08. She also medaled since she finished in the top 20. The other top six runners were freshman Catherine Lien, junior Charlotte Hodges, freshman Faith Carlson, junior Kate Swaldi, and senior captains Emery Paulsen and Ellie Chong.

In the Open JV Division, the team placed 6th out of 9 teams. There were 99 runners in this division. Junior Anna Odom was the lead runner for the team with a time of 26:50. The other top six runners for the Lady Scots were juniors Hattie Rhodes and Olivia Wade, and freshmen Campbell Schubert, Molly Gerstenhaber, Brinnley Perritt, and Harper Hyatt.

Congratulations to the following athletes as they set new personal records: freshman Sloane Odom and sophomore Evelyn Shull. There were eight athletes who set Coach T-Marcus Invitational personal records: senior captain Ryan Sontag, juniors Finley Heckler and Paisley Bassett, senior Annie Cooper, sophomore Stella Pruett, senior Jenna McCombs, junior Kate Swaldi, and senior captain Emery Paulsen.

Also, congratulations to the following athletes as they are on the All-Time Lady Scots Top 30 List for the Coach T-Marcus Invitational: sophomore Adelaide Wortman - #2, senior captain Ryan Sontag - #3, junior Finley Heckler - #5, junior Paisley Bassett - #7, senior Annie Cooper - #16, and freshman Ella Marie Hooks - #20.

The next meet for the Lady Scots will be the McKinney Boyd Bronco Stampede on Saturday, September 12th at Myers Park in McKinney. The first race begins at 7:20 a.m.
