Lady Scots Cross Country Team Competes Well at the Friday Night Hawk Invite

The Lady Scots Cross Country Team competed in their second meet of the season on Friday, August 21st at the Friday Night Hawk Invite held at McInnish Park in Carrollton. This was the first time the Lady Scots have competed at this meet. It was a 2-mile course rather than the normal 5K, and the first race was at 7:30 p.m. The Elite Varsity placed 1st with 41 points, the Varsity placed 7th with 184 points, and the JV placed 7th with 213 points.

In the Elite Varsity Division, there were 11 teams and 80 runners. The team raced in a close pack. Sophomore Adelaide Wortman was the top runner for the Lady Scots. She won the meet with a time of 11:31.0. Right on her heels was senior captain Ryan Sontag. She placed 2nd with a time of 11:33.0 (a new 2-mile personal record). Junior Finley Heckler placed 8th with a new 2-mile personal record of 12:02.0, and junior Paisley Bassett placed 16th (12:33.0). Senior Annie Cooper placed 21st (12:38.0 – a new 2-mile personal record), freshman Ella Marie Hooks placed 27th (13:00.0), and freshman Madison Baskin placed 51st (14:30.0).

In the Varsity Division, there were 24 teams and 179 runners. The top runner for the team was sophomore Stella Pruett. She placed 11th with a time of 13:22.0. Freshman Sloane Odom was the next runner for the team, and she placed 24th with a time of 13:50.0. The other five runners were seniors Campbell Ragan and Jenna McCombs, juniors Charlotte Hodges and Irene Cooper, and freshman Madeline Lewis.

In the JV Division, there were 28 teams and 348 runners. Freshman Perry Doffermyre led the Lady Scots by placing 2nd with a time of 14:13.0. The other top six runners for the team were: junior Kate Swaldi, senior captain Ellie Chong, freshmen Faith Carlson and Catherine Lien, senior Avi Levy, and senior captain Emery Paulsen.

The following Lady Scots set new 2-mile personal records: Annie Cooper, Finley Heckler, Audrey Frotten, Evelyn Shull, Ryan Sontag, and Kate Swaldi.

The next meet for the Lady Scots will be the Greenhill 6-Mile Relay on Saturday, August 29th at Norbuck Park in Dallas. The first race begins at 7:35 a.m.
