On Saturday, August 15th, the Lady Scots Cross Country Team competed at the Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational at the Lakeview Camp in Waxahachie. This was the first race of the 2026 season, and it was a great race day!
In the Elite Varsity Division, the team placed 1st with 37 points. The team was led by senior captain Ryan Sontag. She won the meet with a time of 17:24.7. This was a new PR for Sontag. The next three Scots came in together. Junior Finley Heckler placed 6th with a time of 18:18.3 (a new PR), junior Paisley Bassett placed 7th with a time of 18:27.6, and senior Annie Cooper placed 10th with a time of 18:37.9 (a new PR). The other three Lady Scots were freshmen Ella Marie Hooks, Hadleigh Raynor, and Madison Baskin.
The team also won the Elite JV Division with 48 points. The top runner for the team was freshman Jing Wang who placed 3rd with a time of 20:57.8. Sophomore Stella Pruett placed 9th with a time of 21:37.7. Freshman Sloane Odom placed 11th, senior Jenna McCombs placed 12th and set a new PR with a time of 21:45.3, and freshman Madeline Lewis placed 13th. The other top two runners for the team were juniors Irene Cooper and Charlotte Hodges.
Two other athletes set new PR’s – junior Haven Hyatt and senior Alejandra Villasana. There were six athletes that set new meet personal records – Annie Cooper, Finley Heckler, Haven Hyatt, Jenna McCombs, Ryan Sontag, and Alejandra Villasana.
The team ran with a lot of confidence which was so much fun to watch! The next race for the Lady Scots is the Friday Night Hawk Invite on Friday, August 21st at McInnish Park in Carrollton. The first race begins at 6:30 p.m.
