On Saturday, August 8th, the Lady Scots Cross Country Team served the community by volunteering at the Dallas Leadership Foundation. The captains chose this as the team's community service project for the season.
The team was divided into groups according to their carpools and completed the following tasks in two and a half hours: filling 400 boxes with food for distribution and organizing files, clothes, books, and movies. The boxes contained various foods needed to help stretch a household's limited grocery budget. The boxes are distributed safely at DLF's drive-thru distribution centers in East Dallas and Richardson twice a month.
The team did as much as possible in a little over two hours. They also met another volunteer who had graduated from Highland Park High School in 1962. He played football for the Scots and had great words of advice for the team. :)
The Dallas Leadership Foundation "mission is accomplished by staff with over 20 years of experience serving people in need. The team works out of three main departments: DLF Neighborhoods, DLF Reentry, and DLF Youth."
The team made an impact on many people who they will probably never meet. It was a great way to start the day.
It's A Great Day To Be A Lady Scot!
