On Saturday, February 7th, the Lady Scots Track & Field Team served the community by volunteering at Brother Bill's Helping Hand. The captains chose this as the team's community service project.
The team was divided into three Brother Bill’s locations based on their carpools – the garden on Hampton, the food pantry on north Westmoreland, and the garden on Herbert Street. The following tasks were completed: added mulch and soil to the garden, prepared the garden for planting vegetables, planted new plants, fed the hens, pulled weeds and old vegetation, and organized the food pantry by stocking shelves, bagging potatoes, and placing bags of chips in large bins. It was a very busy two hours, and it was fun watching the team work together and accomplish so much.
Brother Bill's Helping Hand is a non-profit organization in the West Dallas area. It was "founded by West Dallas Preacher Bill Harrod 84 years ago, who saw a need the West Dallas Community had for basic necessities". At the Hampton location, they serve approximately 165 families per week.
The team made an impact on many people who they will probably never meet. It was definitely a Great Day To Be A Lady Scot!
