LADY SCOTS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM COMPETES AT MCNEIL INVITATIONAL IN ROUND ROCK

Lady Scots Cross Country Team Competes at McNeil Invitational in Round Rock

On Saturday, September 20th, the Lady Scots Cross Country Team travelled to Round Rock and competed at the McNeil Invitational at Old Settlers Park. This is the venue for the UIL State Championships on October 31st. It was a great race day for the team!

In the Gold Elite Varsity Division, the team placed 8th out of 26 teams with 252 points. They were the 3rd best 5A team behind Lovejoy and Boerne Champion. There were 199 runners in this race. The team had to qualify to race in this division. Sophomore Paisley Bassett led the team by placing 6th with a time of 18:27.1 – a new course personal record. Sophomore Finley Heckler placed 53rd with a time of 19:45.9, and junior Annie Cooper placed 74th with a time of 19:55.9. The other members of the team were junior Claire Deeken, senior captain Maddie Heckler, senior Presley Pate, and freshman Stella Pruett.

In the 5A Varsity Division, the team placed 5th out of 24 teams. There were 186 runners in this race. Senior Addie Perritt was the top runner for the team as she placed 19th with a time of 21:56.9. Senior captain Julia Berlin placed 27th with a time of 22:22.5, and senior Campbell Dean placed 30th with a time of 22:29.9. The other team members were junior Ellie Chong, senior Ava Thropp, and sophomore Katelyn Baumgartner who set a new course personal record.

In the JV Division, the team placed 2nd out of 13 teams and scored 72 points. There were 159 runners in this division. Senior Eva Boutros led the team by placing 14th with a time of 23:45.9 – a new personal record. She also medaled due to her top 15 finish. The other top seven team finishers were senior Morgan Howarth – set a new course personal record, sophomore Anna Odom – set a new course personal record, junior Avi Levy, junior Emery Paulsen - set a new course personal record, senior captain Gracie Golden, and junior Jenna McCombs.

The coaches are so proud of the team! Everyone is working together as a team, and it is so much fun to watch!

The next race for the team will be at the Jesuit XC Classic on Saturday, September 27th at the Prestonwood Polo Club in Oak Point. The first race begins at 7:55 a.m.
