Lady Scots Cross Country Team Competes Well at Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational

On Saturday, August 16th, the Lady Scots Cross Country Team competed at the Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational at Lakeview Camp in Waxahachie. Both the Varsity and JV placed 1st with 53 points and 57 points, respectively. Each team worked well together and closed the gaps from last week.

In the Varsity Division, there were 13 teams and 117 runners. Sophomore Paisley Bassett was the top runner for the Lady Scots. She placed 7th with a time of 18:10.3 (new personal record), and sophomore Finley Heckler was close behind as she placed 9th with a time of 18:22.4 (new personal record). Senior Presley Pate placed 14th with a time of 18:56.7 (new personal record). The next three Lady Scots were freshman Stella Pruett (18th with a time of 19:07.5), juniors Claire Deeken (19th with a time of 19:15.0 – new personal record) and Annie Cooper (20th with a time of 19:15.4 – new personal record). Senior Addie Perritt placed 39th (20:19.0), senior captain Julia Berlin placed 45th (20:39.0 – new personal record), and Ava Thropp placed 57th (21:12.6 – new personal record).

In the JV Division, there were 16 teams and 143 runners. Junior Campbell Ragan led the Lady Scots by placing 3rd with a time of 21:11.2 (new personal record). Sophomore Irene Cooper was close behind as she placed 6th with a time of 21:29.1 (new personal record). The other top five runners for the team were: junior Jenna McCombs (new personal record – 22:21.9), sophomore Charlotte Hodges, senior Campbell Dean, and sophomores Katelyn Baumgartner (new personal record – 22:42.1) and Kate Furgeson.

The following Lady Scots also set new 5K personal records: sophomore Kate Swaldi (22:57.4), junior Emery Paulsen (23:34.9), sophomore Hattie Rhodes (23:36.0), sophomore Hannah Orvananos Cardenas (24:26.9), sophomore Haven Hyatt (25:25.2), and senior Greer Jackson (29:14.5).

The next meet for the Lady Scots will be the Greenhill Six Mile Relay at Norbuck Park on Saturday, August 23rd. The first race begins at 7:35 a.m.
